América Latina
América Latina se caracteriza por un clima variado, que va la desde la Cuenca del Amazonas, cálida y húmeda, hasta las zonas desérticas del Norte de México y del Sur de Chile. La Cuenca del Amazonas alberga la selva tropical más grande del mundo, pero su biodiversidad está en riesgo a causa de las cambiantes condiciones climáticas y la continua deforestación está haciendo desaparecer especies. Aunque América Latina es muy heterogénea en términos climáticos, se están observando crecientes temperaturas en todos los países. Una de las consecuencias de esto es el deshielo de los glaciares, que está alcanzando niveles cada vez más críticos en los países andinos. Además de las inundaciones y la escasez de agua dulce, otro problema es que el deshielo de los glaciares contribuye al aumento del nivel del mar, el cual tiene impactos negativos severos en las zonas costeras. En algunas regiones se observa un incremento de las precipitaciones, mientras que vemos una reducción en otras, siendo las partes tropicales las afectadas por las mayores anomalías. Los fenómenos meteorológicos extremos, como inundaciones, sequías y desprendimientos de tierras, están dándose con más frecuencia y más intensidad, y contribuyen a aumentar la vulnerabilidad de las comunidades locales a los desastres naturales. El sector agrícola se verá especialmente impactado por la escasez de agua y ya está declinando el rendimiento de las cosechas. Asimismo, este sector se enfrenta a un aumento de las plagas y las enfermedades animales. La población también se ve afectada por diferentes problemas de salud, enfermades y escasez de agua dulce, causados por el calor, las sequías y las inundaciones.
